Intent

At Boynton Primary School, we aim to provide a broad, balanced and differentiated PE curriculum which ensures all pupils have access to inspiring, meaningful and inclusive teaching. Through high-quality physical education, we support children to enquire, develop knowledge and build the skills needed to excel in a wide range of physical activities.

In line with our school vision, “From Little Acorns, Mighty Oaks Grow,” we encourage every child to develop confidence, resilience and aspiration through participation in competitive sport and active lifestyles.

At Boynton, we recognise the importance of physical education in promoting physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing, both now and in the future. We believe PE plays a vital role in helping children lead healthy lifestyles whilst developing self-discipline, determination and perseverance.

Our PE curriculum aims to teach children that success comes through hard work, resilience and believing that anything can be achieved.

We intend for our pupils to:

  • Develop competence and confidence in a broad range of physical activities
  • Experience success and enjoyment in sport and physical activity
  • Build resilience, determination and self-belief
  • Cooperate and collaborate effectively as part of a team
  • Understand and demonstrate fair play and respect
  • Develop life skills that positively impact their future wellbeing and success
  • Lead active and healthy lifestyles beyond primary school

Implementation

In ensuring high standards of teaching and learning, we aim to develop pupils who aspire to independently improve and challenge themselves.

Physical Education is taught through a carefully planned two-year cycle which ensures progression in skills, knowledge and vocabulary across all year groups.

Children at Boynton participate in weekly PE lessons and sporting activities which provide opportunities to:

  • Work at their own level of development

  • Develop teamwork, tolerance and cooperation
  • Improve resilience and perseverance
  • Have fun whilst achieving personal success

Our curriculum incorporates a wide variety of sports and physical activities to ensure all children can engage positively and develop a lifelong enjoyment of being active.

Lessons are delivered within a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves and celebrate achievement.

Children are also provided with opportunities to participate in extra-curricular clubs, festivals and competitive sporting events where they can compete alongside their peers in a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
