We are now in the Summer term and Key Stage 2 are now enjoying the natural world in Forest Schools!
In Week 1 & 2 we have looked at small scale den building which will help us when we build a life size den for ourselves in the big wood behind school! The children have to make their dens from the natural materials they find which can be quite tricky!
We then have a break for a warm hot chocolate and a biscuit and discuss what our plans are for our dens and if we think they will be successful!
This club has been offered to KS1 children for the Spring Term and will work through the school through the year.
Miss Mac and Miss Moss will be running a Forest School Club every Tuesday 3.30pm - 4.30pm
The clubs aims are:
· to nurture a sense of fun
· to raise self-esteem
· to improve independence
· to encourage team work
· to develop a deeper understanding of our natural world.
The sessions are loosely planned using children’s ideas and interests and will include campfire activities, nature crafting, den building, nature detective work, mindfulness and woodland wellbeing.
Using the stimulus of the natural world through the changing seasons, we will be making the most of our exciting outdoor spaces in all weathers and appreciating the opportunity to move at a slower pace and enjoying the feeling of being outside.
All activities have been properly risk assessed and will be carried out under direct supervision from Miss Mac and Miss Moss who are both Paediatric First Aiders.
The sessions actively promote opportunities for creativity, sensory interaction with the environment and an opportunity for the children to manage risks.
Forest School activities promote the wellbeing of the whole child, and every member of the team is a valuable one with something of worth to contribute to each session to make it a unique experience.
